IBN Building Biology Consultant Course
Since 1977, the IBN Building Biology Consultant Course has been at the core of the ZFU-approved training program to become an IBN Building Biology Consultant (The ZFU is the German Accreditation Agency of Continuing Studies). The main mission of the program is to educate and promote competence in the field of healthy, sustainable, and holistic building practices in living and work environments.
Available in the UK for the first time, and aimed at homeowners, students, and construction and medical professionals, the eagerly anticipated IBN Building Biology Consultant course is fully accredited by the Institute of Building Biology + Sustainability, or Institut für Baubiologie + Nachhaltigkeit (IBN).
The online IBN Building Biology Consultant Course provides an interdisciplinary educational opportunity for building professionals such as architects, engineers, technicians, tradespeople, staff members of construction companies, building material manufacturers and suppliers, housing agencies, building management companies, as well as (environmental medicine) health care professionals, but also for students from e.g. technical colleges and homeowners.
The main mission of the course is to educate and promote competence in the field of healthy, sustainable, and holistic building practices as well as natural lifestyles.
The contents of the online IBN Building Biology Consultant Course is science-based, but also practice-based. The information is presented in a clear and easy-to-understand format, with online learning offering the following advantages:

Duration + Course Fees
The IBN Building Biology Consultant Course, typically undertaken over a 12 month period, can be started at the beginning of every month. The course is completed online and consists of 20 modules comprising staged learning and interim study questions.
Topics include: Introduction to Building Biology; Living Environment and Location; Indoor Climate; Natural Building Methods; Heating and Ventilation; Plumbing Systems and Water-efficient Strategies; Energy-efficient Building Design; Light and Lighting; Natural Colours and Finishes; Environmental Performance; Wood Preservation and House Pests; Building Materials and Building Science; Electromagnetic Radiation; Electrical Wiring; Air and Air Pollutants; Noise and Noise Control; Architectural Physiology and Building Safety; Building Regulations; Practicing Building Biology.
The course can be completed in isolation, however students wishing to aim for the IBN Building Biology Consultant qualification will additionally have to attend IBN-approved face-to-face seminars, and successfully complete a final written examination.
A one week seminar will cover the key aspects of the online course with a focus on implications on local climates, regulations, typical local materials and construction methods.The final written examination will be held on the last day.
The first seminar will be held in Exeter from April 23-28 2018 and booking is now available through the Building Biology Association. A programme for the event is available for download here.

Fees for the online course element are paid in advance in Euros (€) through the IBN.
Fees for the seminar and written examination elements are paid in advance in Pounds Sterling (£) through the BBA.
In order to enroll on the course, please download, complete and return a Participation Agreement Form. Once received, the IBN will send an invoice for the online course element only.

Enrollment on the course and access to the online material will occur once payment has been received, the completed Participation Agreement form has been returned, and a 14-day cancellation period has lapsed.

Upon successful completion of the IBN Building Biology Consultant Course, Qualified IBN Building Biology Consultants will be able to undertake further training, for example specialising in SBM2015 Testing.
∞ Please note that accommodation and board is not included in the cost for the seminars. Seminars will be hosted in the South West of England with the dates and venue to be confirmed when the number of attendees is known.
